Network, learn and give back – 2023 CRE Summit

By: J. David Chapman/October 5, 2023

The Commercial Real Estate Summit is next Wednesday, Oct. 11, on the University of Central Oklahoma campus from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The first CRE Summit was held Jan. 28, 2016, at UCO, with all proceeds going to the UCO Real Estate Program to support our students.

The summit was designed to provide networking opportunities and continuing education to the entire commercial real estate industry. It was created as a place for real estate brokers, lenders, appraisers, architects, contractors, inspectors, attorneys, underwriters, planners, developers, surveyors, assessors, builders and investors to come together in one place to network and learn. I don’t know of any other venue created specifically to take a deep dive into the hottest topics and biggest issues in our industry.

The program includes breakfast and lunch keynote speakers as well as educational breakout sessions all day. Keynotes will be delivered at breakfast, Leveraging Technology to Uncover and Accelerate Opportunities by Gunnar Hood, and the luncheon presentation will be Artificial Intelligence in CRE by Hart Brown. The various sessions include Asset Management Issues Related to Out-of-State Ownership, Bert Belanger and panel; Home ARP Funding, Darrell Beavers; Updated Statewide Housing Needs Assessment, Shawn Schaefer; Mastering Effective Communication in Business, Kristopher Baker; changes to the OK Residential Landlord Tenant Act, panel moderated by Bryson Panas; Oklahoma Housing Stability Program, Darrell Beavers; New Urbanism Planning panel with Cassi Poor; Cornerstones of Building a Business, Brad Willis as moderator; Implementing Protect Duty: Enhancing Security at CRE Sites, Dr. David McIlhatton, Coventry University, UK; Multifamily Bond Financing, Darrell Beavers; Mechanic Liens & Broken Priority, Jennifer Jones; CRE Appraisal Topics with Andrea Johnson’s panel; Development Taxes, Jeff Trevillion; Expanding Your Capital Stack, Bert Belanger; CRE Cap Rates & Profit Spreads, Darin Dalbom; and Innovation in Development, Dr. David Chapman and panel. Whew!

At the Luncheon, UCO President Todd Lamb will give a welcome. After the keynote, Pivot Awards will be presented to Matthew Myers (Developer), Josh Moore (Public Official), Trait Thompson (Project Manager), Darin Dalbom (Appraiser), and Todd McKinnis (Attorney). Whether you attend the CRE Summit to network and build your real estate business, to get continuing education for licensing, or to support and meet the real estate students at UCO, I hope to see you there. You can register for the summit at 2023 Commercial Real Estate Summit Tickets, Wednesday, Oct 11, 2023 at 8:30 AM | Eventbrite.

J. David Chapman is professor of finance and real estate at the University of Central Oklahoma (jchapman7@uco.edu).
